Chamois client, Alcon, appoints senior sales executive, Bill Waddell

Alcon Components Ltd, the acclaimed global motorsport brake and clutch company, has today announced the appointment of Bill Waddell to fulfil the role of Armoured and Military Business Development Manager. This key appointment forms part of Alcon’s recently announced £2 million investment plan that aims to service emerging global defence and security vehicle market demands.

The appointment of Bill Waddell as a senior business development executive is a strategic step that will provide specific defence sales and marketing focus for Alcon. Concurrently, Alcon are launching a marketing and PR campaign and implementing various other key infrastructure and management measures to enable future defence sector growth. Bill Waddell is exceedingly well-known and highly regarded in the defence and automotive sectors. Previously, he has worked with Ford, Pinzgauer, Rousch, Marshall and Supacat. Immediately prior to joining Alcon, Bill was the Head of Sales at Babcock/MacNeillie. Bill’s contacts, knowledge of and credibility in defence will give Alcon a huge boost in their already successful defence sector expansion activity.

The appointment comes off the back of some key milestone successes in the defence and security sector. Recently, Alcon delivered a batch of Toyota LC200 armoured vehicle upgrade kits that took the total full (front and rear) kits sold since 2009 to over 3000. Additionally, Alcon successfully launched the new CIR55 heavy armoured vehicle caliper at the DSEi and AUSA exhibitions in September and October, working together with AxleTech. The CIR55 caliper is a bespoke design that significantly improves braking performance whilst reducing weight and cost when fitted to 8×8 type military vehicles. Alcon’s brake kits improve performance and reduce weight; key requirements for any armoured defence and security vehicle.

Jonathan Edwards, Sales Director at Alcon said: “I’m delighted to be welcoming Bill to our sales team. We searched far and wide to find the right person and as a supremely experienced defence sector operator, Bill is exactly what we were looking for”. He added: “Bill’s first task will be to pick up and drive the numerous immediate sales opportunities that our recent market research and sector marketing activity have identified and generated”.

Bill Waddell, Armoured and Military Business Development Manager at Alcon said: “I am exceedingly happy to have joined the Alcon team. Alcon is a company that has exceptional products with an impressive motorsport and automotive pedigree. The capabilities that we are offering the defence sector are considerable and I’m very much looking forward to helping Alcon achieve the immediate and longer term goals in the global military vehicle market”.
