Spectra Group, the specialist provider of secure voice, data and satellite communications systems, has delivered on its ambitious net carbon zero plans to be carbon neutral by 2023. However, keen to do more, Spectra Group, has now also signed up to Trees4Travel to further reduce its travel carbon footprint.
In June 2022, Spectra Group commissioned 124 solar panels at its UK HQ site in Kingstone, Herefordshire with aspirations to become a carbon neutral company by 2023. In early 2023, it installed 40kW of Tesla battery storage to further reduce its carbon footprint, become energy independent and improve business continuity. This combined with a local tree planting regime effectively delivered their ambitious net carbon zero goals. However, CEO Simon Davies said, “At Spectra Group, we believe everyone has a responsibility to reduce their carbon footprint and as a progressive company, we are committed to doing our bit to protect the environment and secure a better future for the next generation.” Therefore, they have decided to do more, and reduce their travel carbon footprint by signing up to Trees4Travel.
Trees4Travel are an award winning “tech for good” company who work by planting trees in developing countries as you travel, to help restore ecosystems, biodiversity & support local communities through the dignity of employment thus together building a more sustainable & equitable world. The concept is simple, Spectra Group staff book travel as normal, but the carbon footprint of the journey is automatically calculated by Trees4Travel, the cost of the appropriate number of trees (£2 per tree) is added to the travel bill and then planted in developing areas in dire need of reforestation (such as Haiti and Nepal). For example, a rail journey from London to Paris would cost approximately 1 tree and a flight to the USA closer to 7 trees.
The secondary benefits are, the Trees4Travel reforestation projects meet 13 of the 17 United Nations sustainable development goals, thereby supporting the local community and protecting the environment where they work. Also, Spectra Group staff can add their own accounts to the system to offset their own personal journeys without any contractual commitment; so it’s a true win- win for everyone.
