Gareth Baker joined Chamois in April 2021 as a Principal Consultant – PR & Media and was promoted to Director – PR & Media in August 2022. Gareth provides expert support to our clients, drawing on extensive and multi-disciplined military and corporate careers. In his current role he account manages a portfolio of Chamois clients and also helps to supervise, lead and train our other consultants working elsewhere across the business.

Gareth served 24 years as a Royal Engineer officer in the British Army, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel after commanding 1 RSME Regiment. He is an energetic and engaging leader, motivated by solving complex problems, inspiring those he works with and getting the best from every situation. Gareth has enjoyed a varied career including chartered engineer training in Australia, attending Advanced Command and Staff Training at the UK Defence Academy and commanding his Engineer Squadron on operations in Afghanistan.

Following retirement from the Armed Forces, Gareth joined Sussex Community NHS Trust as their Transformation Director, leading their successful foundation trust application process, writing their 5-year strategic plan and implementing a radical change programme for the 5000 staff. Since leaving the NHS, Gareth has been the Operations Director for AET Int Ltd, which is a small technology start up, and has been responsible for all aspects of the business, transforming the founder’s initial concept into a working product delivered to market.

Gareth is a chartered civil engineer, qualified programme director and has board level experience of transformation, strategic planning, communications, organisational development in the NHS, Army, education and commercial sectors. Gareth is also an accomplished sportsman with a passion for windsurfing and enjoys lots of other sporting activities. He was 4 times Joint Service and Army Windsurfing Champion, represented the Royal Engineers at tennis and squash and is willing to learn anything that presents a suitable challenge; he occasionally also picks up the guitar if suitably motivated!

Gareth reconnected with our CEO, Jamie, on the beach in Tarifa, Spain while travelling Europe with his family in their motorhome in search of adventure, sport, health, nature and fun. This lifestyle aligns perfectly with the Chamois ethos and the modern ways of working allow Gareth to support our clients whilst travelling anywhere in the world.
